Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of problem solving methods on students self-cofidence in learning mathematics for class VII SMP Negeri 2 LAROMPONG. The population of this study were all students of class VII SMP Negeri 2 LAROMPONG. In this study the method of sampling is by means of random sampling technique used in this research in descriptive analysis where the number of samples used is 17 students, the average pretest value is 65.59 and the posttest value is 72.82, inferential statistical analysis by finding tcount using the t distribution table with a significant level α = 5 % (0.05) and db = N – 2 then the tcount value is 8.09 and ttable is 1.753 where tcount > ttable = 8.09 > 1.753, and it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means that the hypothesis in this research, there is a positive effect of the Problem Solving method on students’ self-confidence in learning mathematics for class VII SMP Negeri 2 LAROMPONG.
