THE USE OF READING ENCODING, ANNOTATING, AND PONDERING (REAP) STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT THE FIRST GRADE OF SMA BAJIMINASA MAKASSAR

Abstract

The researcher applied pre-experimental method with one group pretest- posttest design, and collected the data by giving pre-test and post-test. The sample of the research was the first grade of SMA Bajiminasa Makassar which consisted of 20 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. The research findings showed that the tenth grade students of SMA Bajimiasa Makassar had fairly score in pre-test. After treatment, their  reading comprehension was significantly increase. The result of data analysis showed that there was significance difference in students reading comprehension, where the student score in post-test was higher than score in pre-test (76>53) and the result of t-test was higher than t-table (7.20>2.093).Based on the result of this research. It can be concluded that Using REAP Strategy can improve students reading comprehension at the first –grade students of SMA Bajiminasa Makassar.
